A calmer spring shed-out, without the car ride

What the winter-coat release looks like, when brushing is not enough, and how to prepare for a mobile groomer.

The undercoat has its own timetable

Double-coated dogs release insulating undercoat as daylight and temperature change. Loose coat can compact near the hips, chest, and behind the ears even when the top coat looks tidy. A patient line-brush and comb check reveals what a quick surface brushing misses.

Skip the shave unless a qualified professional recommends it

For many double coats, close shaving changes protection and regrowth without solving the underlying coat-release cycle. Ask the groomer how they assess matting, skin condition, coat type, and drying tolerance before agreeing to a major cut.

Make the curbside visit easy

Share breed, approximate weight, coat condition, sensitivities, and any medical or mobility needs before the appointment. Reserve level parking and a safe power or water arrangement only if the provider requests it. A short pre-visit note protects the dog and keeps the route on time.
